Marrakech has my heart. I can say that without hesitation. There is something about this city — the colours, the sounds, the smell of spices drifting through the medina — that gets under your skin in the best possible way. But the thing that surprised me most wasn't the souks or the riads or the food, extraordinary as all of those are. It was the people. The hospitality in Marrakech is unlike anything I've experienced anywhere else. Genuine, warm, unhurried. You are welcomed, not just tolerated as a tourist.

Djemaa el-Fna square at night is one of the great spectacles of the world — snake charmers, storytellers, food stalls stretching as far as you can see. Getting lost in the medina during the day is half the experience. And a mint tea on a rooftop terrace at sunset, watching the city below, is something you'll be talking about for years.
